The other day, I came across this quote from Veronica Roth that I thought pretty perfectly described my current mood. So I thought I’d share. It said:
“And consider getting desperate. Desperate to write, desperate to get that story on the page, desperate to let the characters speak, and desperate to finish.”
Now this quote came from a NaNoWriMo pep talk by Veronica Roth, but I think it’s applicable to any month in the year. She was saying that when you hit that wall when you’re writing so many words in a month like NaNoWriMo, maybe stop paying attention to so many of the rules and activities that are supposed to help your writing, and just write.
That’s how I’ve been feeling this month. Just desperate to write and get the words on the page. And I’ve been fortunate enough this month to have the time to do just that (since my spring semester hasn’t started yet). It’s just been completely necessary that I write, completely necessary that I get the characters’ story told.
And today I finished the first draft of the novel, which is super crazy and awesome (editing, here I come). I’m going to remember to be desperate (the good kind) more often.

P.S. I finally read Divergent by Veronica Roth, and it’s so great. But more about that soon…
Mackenzie, you finished your novel!!! What an accomplishment, and how great that you’ve been having that feeling of being desperate to write. That is the BEST feeling for a writer to have. 🙂
